Refinery29 credits creator @blendsbypouja with originating it and @musthavesxt and @soulsophiamua with popularising it, and counts 117 million TikTok mentions (Refinery29). Bustle recorded 3 million views on #CherryColaLips early in the trend and linked it to Kylie Jenner (Bustle). It builds on the Douyin lip, the blurred Chinese-social-media gradient.
The recipe has three parts. A deep brown or burgundy liner is drawn on the outer edge and blended inward with a brush or fingertip so there is no hard line. A red lipstick or gloss goes over the centre and is blended into the brown for an ombré. A clear or red gloss on top gives the wet, fizzy shine that names the look. Products cited by Bustle include Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Foxy Brown, Refy Lip Sculpt in Sepia and Fenty Gloss Bomb Heat in Hot Cherry (Bustle).
The look is still current. Douglas lists cherry cola lips among its 2026 makeup looks for Dutch readers (Douglas), and m.ph beauty sells an Overliner named Cherry Cola. Its success proved that a lip combo could be named, copied and searched, which is the pattern every later combo followed.
Cool-toned variations swap the red for plum or violet over the same brown edge. India Anaïs calls its version violet cola, worn with a plum liner and a violet-tinted gloss.
